11月19日至20日,协和集团的ELA两位培训师Frances Bruce和Jane Alston莅临我校,并认真观摩了我校七位ELA课程老师的引导阅读课程,最终对老师们专业的阅读策略、引导技巧和创设的富有活力的课堂气氛给予了高度肯定。From Monday November 19th to Tuesday November 20th, seven ELA teachers opened their Guided Reading lessons for the major ELA trainers, Ms. Fran and Ms. Jane from Xiehe Group to observe their reading strategies and techniques. These teachers made reading come alive in fun, interesting and meaningful ways that piqued students’ interests.
MR. JARED
第一位开课的老师是P1B的Jared老师。他的课程中安排了不同类型的活动,并将学生分为7组,每隔8分钟,小组便按顺时针顺序更换活动。本堂课,Jared老师与他的合作老师Ms Smiley和Ms Carol(Big Sister / Big Brother项目的高中志愿者)带领孩子们享受了有趣的阅读时光,并获得了两位培训师的赞赏。The first teacher to be observed was Mr. Jared in P1B. His lesson was arranged with students in 7 groups. Each group had 8 minutes to work on an activity. After 8 minutes, the activities were rotated clockwise among the groups. Mr. Jared had the support of Ms. Smiley, his co-teacher and Carol, a high school volunteer from the Big Sister/Big Brother program who played the role of mini-teacher. Both trainers were pleased with his lesson.
MR. PETER
第二位开课的老师是P5E的Mr Pete。他的课程侧重于非小说文本特征。本课程的结构旨在提高学生的理解能力以及学生成为独立学习的挑战者。根据他们的Lexile水平将学生分成7组。Ms. Fran对孩子们的专注力非常地满意。The second teacher that was observed was Mr. Peter in P5E. His lesson focused on non-fiction text features. This session was structured to gain higher levels of comprehension skills and the students rose to the challenge of being independent learners. Students were placed into 7 groups according to their Lexile level. Ms. Fran was pleased with how focused the students were.
MS. VICTORIA
第三位老师是P2D的Ms Victoria。她首先带领学生们背诵指导阅读规则,将课堂带入充满活力的气氛中。然后使用Class Dojo随机选择学生阅读每个小组的活动指南。课堂中,她将学生分为6个混合能力小组,以便不同能力的学生能够互相合作。Ms. Fran 和 Ms. Jane对课堂活动设计也给予了肯定。The third teacher to be observed was Ms. Victoria in P2D. Ms. Victoria started her class with a vibrant activity of the students reciting the Guided Reading rules. Then she moved into using Class Dojo to randomly select students to read the activities each group would be focusing on. Her class was arranged into 6 mixed ability groups to ensure there was a strong student to lead and support those in need. Both Ms. Fran and Ms. Jane said the activities were well planned.

On Tuesday November 20th, 4 teachers continued the process of heightening students’ interests in becoming strong independent readers.
MS.CEARON
Ms.CEARON于周二在P1C进行授课。她将学生分为7个混合能力小组,每个小组有8分钟的时间完成指定的任务。课堂上,她与她的合作老师Mr Andy也不断地对孩子们的发音给予帮助。同学们非常喜欢他们的引导阅读课程,并表现出很强的独立性。Ms. Fran对于孩子们的学习状态非常满意。Ms. Cearon was the first teacher to be observed on Tuesday in P1C for Guided Reading. Her students were divided into 7 mixed ability groups and each group had 8 minutes to work on an assigned task. She was supported by Mr. Andy who helped students with their initial and final sounds of words. Students enjoyed their Guided Reading session and displayed a strong level of independence. Ms. Fran said the students did well.
MS. CORYNN
在Ms.CORYNN的P3E引导阅读课程中,她根据学生的Lexile水平对学生进行了分组。她的引导式阅读的主题是海盗船,并给每位学生都分配了角色任务。这种教学安排,极大地吸引了孩子们的专注力,激发了孩子们的学习兴趣。 课堂上,Ms CORYNN先快速回顾了课程规则。最终,孩子们在活动中体出现的专注力和激情获得了两位培训师的高度赞赏。In Ms. Corynn’s Guided Reading open lesson session with P3E, she grouped students according to their Lexile levels. The theme for her Guided Reading is Pirate Ships and each student takes their role seriously in the group, which allows everyone to stay on task. Ms. Corynn started her lesson with a quick review of the class rules. Ms. Jane and Ms. Fran were happy to see that all students were focused and participative in the assigned activities.
MS. YAHULDA
在Ms.YAHULDA P4A的引导阅读课程中,她根据学生的Lexile水平将他们分成7组,然后学生会接触到更高级别的非小说文本以扩展他们的学习能力。Ms.YAHULDA的导读课程非常高效并有意义。最终,Ms. Fran说:“这是我见过的最好的一堂课。”In Ms. Yahulda’s Guided Reading session in P4A, students were placed into 7 groups according to their Lexile level then they were exposed to non-fiction texts a few levels higher to stretch their learning abilities.. It was observed by Ms. Fran that Ms. Yahulda’s Guided Reading session was very effective and meaningful. She said, “Ms. Yahulda’s session was the best one I observed”.
MS. KIYO
Ms.Kiyo在P5B的导读课程中,根据他们的Lexile水平将学生分成5组,并将准备的说明文本略高于学生的水平,以扩展和加强他们的阅读技能。课程的主要焦点是让学生识别非小说文本功能并使用它们来查找信息。最终,Ms. Jane非常赞赏Ms.Kiyo的课堂设计。Ms. Kiyo’s Guided Reading session in P5B, students were placed in 5 groups according to their Lexile level and given leveled expository texts a bit above their levels to stretch and strengthen their reading skills. Students were engaged in finding examples of text features. Ms. Jane commended Ms. Kiyo on how effectively she ran the session.

小学部ELA课程主管Ms Camille Lindo与中学ELA主管Mr Joshua Barnhart密切合作,以确保两部之间有很强的联系。随着先锋英语素养目标课程的建立,学生应该能够顺利地完成从万源校区的小学到中学过渡。这些课程负责人对英语学习者的积极成长和发展有着一致的看法,并将共同合作,见证孩子们的成长。The head of Primary School ELA Miss Camille Lindo works closely with the head of Middle School ELA Mr. Joshua Barnhart to ensure there is a strong connection between both schools. Students should be able to transition smoothly from Primary to Middle School at Wan Yuan Campus as the Pioneer English Attainment Targets curriculum is connected. These department heads have similar visions for the positive growth and development of students learning in English.
