To maximize learning potential, inspire curiosity, enhance learning ability and improve key competency, Middle School recently gave 7th and 8th graders the MAP tests, which measures what students know and informs what they’re ready to learn next. Measuring growth over time helps students and families in goal setting and personal development. The results also help teachers determine what to teach and how best to group children in the classroom.
In the fall and spring of each year, students in grades K-10 around the world take the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) tests known as Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). MAP tests are used to determine a student’s instructional level and to measure academic growth in core areas from fall to spring and from year to year. MAP is a computer-adaptive skills assessment that provides parents, teachers and administrators with metrics to measure a student’s growth and progress early in their academic life. The MAP test is adaptive, meaning that the computer allows for the test questions to adapt to the individual skill levels of all students. If a student answers a question correctly, the questions will become more difficult; if a student answers a question incorrectly, the questions will become easier.
What’s special about the MAP test?
MAP is a computer adaptive test, which means every student gets a unique set of test questions based on responses to previous questions.
Every question on a MAP Growth assessment is calibrated to the RIT scale. Because the equal-interval scale is continuous across grades, educators can trust it to track longitudinal growth over a student’s entire career.
MAP Growth tests begin with a question appropriate for the student’s grade level, then dynamically adapt throughout the test in response to student performance.
MAP Growth is connected to the industry’s most extensive array of instructional partners to help schools and districts get more from tools they’re already using.
With a special focus on the unique developmental needs of the youngest learners, including audio support, MAP Growth is an adaptive interim assessment that identifies a child’s starting point as early as possible and tracks growth over time. MAP Growth also provides literacy and number skills screening measures for early identification and intervention, and specific skill measures that can be used to assess mastery.
Educators trust MAP Growth for accurate and reliable data on which students need more help so they can support them with timely interventions. MAP Growth and MAP Skills combine to support intervention programs that make a difference. MAP is an assessment utilized to monitor student growth to inform and personalize instruction.
How does it work?
Grade 7 and 8 students on Wanyuan Campus, SUIS sit their MAP tests every year, which give their RIT score at that moment in time. MAP covers reading, language usage, math and science. With further tests, the teachers will see their growth over the year and can use the information to ensure all students are being challenged and achieving the growth potential.
What are the advantages of MAP testing?
NWEA uses anonymous assessment data from over 10.2 million students to create national norms. Educators compare their students’ performance against norms to evaluate programs and improve instruction—in individual classrooms and throughout school systems. MAP Growth engages students and measures enough depth of knowledge to determine a student’s true understanding.
1.帮助学生提高学业水平;2.识别学生各科的强项与弱项;3.为教学改进提供数据依据;4.帮助学生有计划地规划学习;
5.反思教学目标中的各个知识点;
