The Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated by us Chinese for centuries. The festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar with full moon at night, when mooncakes are traditionally eaten. This Mid-Autumn Festival is probably the most charming and picturesque day of this semester, for we, primary, middle school and high school celebrate it together today.
Being the equivalent of American Thanksgiving, the Mid-Autumn Festival means that families and communities traditionally get together to celebrate the harvesting season and pray for a good harvest next year. Imagine colorful, bright, and shiny traditional Chinese clothing everywhere we go. This is how the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated here on Wanyuan Campus.

Mooncakes are the most famous tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival. In Shanghai, you can find hundreds of varieties and unusual fillings to satisfy any taste bud. The festival is celebrated with many cultural or regional customs. Today, it is an occasion for reunions among students and teachers, a symbol of harmony and unity. It also offers the students a great opportunity to know more about the origin and development of the festival.
Festivals are an expressive way to celebrate glorious heritage, culture and traditions. They are meant to rejoice special moments and emotions in our lives with our loved ones. They play an important role to add structure to our social lives, and connect us with our families and backgrounds. They give us a distraction from our day to day, exhausting routine of life, and give us some inspiration to remember the important things and moments in life.
初中部 Middle School

Each traditional Chinese festival, which is inseparable from our ethnic identity, is a time when traditions and traditional practices become especially important both in families and in public generally. The fundamental spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival is closely intertwined with the traditional culture and values of the Chinese. It invariably centers on maintaining and improving human relations.
In Chinese culture, poetry has provided a format and a forum for both public and private expressions of deep emotion, offering an audience of peers, readers, and scholars an insight into the inner life of Chinese writers across more than two millennia. The students have found in it an interesting and pleasurable field of study, in its exemplification of essential contrasts between the ancient times and the modern times, and on its own terms.
美式高中部 High School
Our school has a long history of doing lots of thing in the name of tradition. A traditional festival, from which we derive ‘a sense of belonging’, is always regarded as being very important aspects of the general social glue which holds our community together.
The students in each grade took lessons featuring Chinese culture and engaged in the activities related to Mid-Autumn Festival, which presented a fantastic way to help the students to connect the dots on their own. In doing so, the students realize we preserve traditional festivals in the fast-changing times not only to record the past but to save it for the future as well.
The past gives us an identity and the future holds the promise of fulfillment. Festivals were started to pass the legends, knowledge and traditions onto the next generation. They serve the purpose of bringing happiness to our lives, and strengthen our sense of community.
